Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives, the Local Studies department of Aberdeen Central Library and Aberdeen Maritime Museum have recently been involved in making an episode of the popular “Who Do You Think You Are?” family history series.

Earlier this year, staff from the services met Annie Lennox and assisted her in her quest to find out more about her North east of Scotland roots. Using library resources and original items from the historic archive collections themselves, she discovered the emerging story of her ancestors.

Phil Astley, City Archivist at Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives, said: “This latest episode of “Who Do You Think You Are?” has been a great advert for the services provided by Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives and the other organisations involved in family history in the area.

“The series has been fantastic for promoting family history and encouraging people to explore their roots – Annie Lennox’s journey illustrates how the amazing resources that are available in the North East of Scotland can be used to piece together a fascinating ancestral story.”

Annie Lennox’s episode will be broadcast at 9pm on Wednesday 05 September on BBC1.
