Eurythmics Sweet Dreams ASCAP Top 100

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosted its 31st annual Pop Music Awards tonight at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, CA last week where legendary rock star Tom Petty was honored with the ASCAP Founders Award, which is the most prestigious honor that ASCAP gives to songwriters who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. Each recipient is a musical innovator who possesses a unique style of creative genius that will enrich generations to come.

During the ceremony, music was played in between awards, and Eurythmics Sweet Dreams was one of those songs.

On investigating a little further, I found that ASCAP as part of their 100 anniversary have created a Top 100 Songs of All Time list and Eurythmics Sweet Dreams made No. 20 on the list.

Songs were ranked based upon ASCAP’s historical data from radio, television and internet performances. Only an organization like ASCAP can connect the dots between modern hits and timeless songs like “Happy Birthday to You,” the #1 song of all-time. The top 10 overall songs also include “My Girl,” “White Christmas,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” “Dancing in the Street,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “I Can See Clearly Now.”
