Pop star Annie Lennox and Conservative peer Lord Patten are among a number of leading figures speaking at a conference in Gwynedd later.
The theme of the second annual Names Not Numbers symposium is trust, privacy and personalisation. It is being staged at the Italianate village of Portmeirion, which was the setting for the 1960s television series, The Prisoner. Among the other speakers are MP David Davis and philosopher Alain de Botton.
Labelled “a very British Davos” after the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland, leading international figures drawn from the spheres of business, politics, arts, finance, media, culture and politics will attend the event. Among the guests will be philosopher Alain de Botton, historian Niall Ferguson, singer/songwriter and campaigner Annie Lennox, Conservative politician David Davis MP and social commentator Peter York.
Other attendees will be global retail guru Paco Underhill, Abdul Malik Al Jaber, a leading business figure in Palestine and chief executive of Zain Levant, the head of Brazil’s Akatu Institute for Conscious Consumption Helio Mattar and climate change expert Professor Graciela Chichilnisky.
The opening remarks for the weekend will be made by the last governor of Hong Kong, Lord Patten of Barnes. Parts of the conference will be filmed for the BBC programmes HARDTalk, with Stephen Sackur and Annie Lennox, and The Forum, presented by Bridget Kendall.
