When a relationship ends, dissecting all the troubles and vexations done and received is a dark guilty pleasure that rarely can be avoided: “A history of bitterness, you have left a blazing trail; if you’d been a hammer, I’d be a broken nail; you gave me nothing, nothing but regrets; don’t think it’s over, it’s not over yet”. And even though revenge may be the ultimate goal, there is only one disheartening conclusion: “You put me down”.
“You Hurt Me (And I Hate You)” was released in 1989 as the seventh track on We Too Are One, Eurythmics’ last album of the decade.
