“You Hurt Me (And I Hate You)”

(Eurythmics)

They tell you: “There’s no hell on earth

that’s like a woman scorned”

If you have to face this hell

Wish you’d not been born

And if you have to face this hell

You’ll find me standing there

In the shadows, in the corners

At the foot of every stair

When a relationship ends, dissecting all the troubles and vexations done and received is a dark guilty pleasure that rarely can be avoided: “A history of bitterness, you have left a blazing trail; if you’d been a hammer, I’d be a broken nail; you gave me nothing, nothing but regrets; don’t think it’s over, it’s not over yet”. And even though revenge may be the ultimate goal, there is only one disheartening conclusion: “You put me down”.

“You Hurt Me (And I Hate You)” was released in 1989 as the seventh track on We Too Are One, Eurythmics’ last album of the decade.

I couldnt resist adding this video from Dave Stewart’s Beyond The Groove Series.

If you haven’t seen this before, you are in for a treat!
