We’re a little late updating from last week, but for anyone who missed Annie’s special week last week, the details are all below. Annie was at Buckingham Palace where she was given her title OBE by Queen Elizabeth, on Friday Annie accepted the Silver Cleff award at the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Cleff Awards ceremony in London and then it was announced Annie is to be awarded the Walpole Scottish Medal Of Excellence 2011.

Singer Annie Lennox has collected an OBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace for her charity work fighting Aids and poverty in Africa. The former Eurythmics singer, 56, said: “It’s quite magical. It’s really meaningful to me that it’s for charity work.
“To get this acknowledgement means people are listening,” she added following the investiture ceremony.
Lennox was accompanied by her daughters Tali and Lola. “Campaigning has been taking up a great deal of my commitment for quite a few years, and what it means is that there’s a significance to what I’m doing – I’m not just working in a void,” said the star. She added that she had been “so affected” by the issue of human rights, especially where women and girls in the developing world were concerned.
Lennox is an Oxfam ambassador and founded the Sing campaign to raise awareness of Aids in Africa. Lennox’s foundation of Sing in 2007 was inspired by Nelson Mandela to help children and women affected by the illness. The musician is also a UNAids goodwill ambassador and a prominent peace activist.
Lennox has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide with the Eurythmics and as a solo artist. The singer released her latest album in November – A Christmas Cornucopia – topping off three decades of UK chart hits. She has collected the Best Female Singer title at the Brit Awards on six different occasions.
An exhibition of the life and inspirations of Lennox is set to go on show later this year. The Aberdeen-born star will feature in a display at London’s Victoria and Albert museum for five months from 15 September.

None other than Annie Lennoxwas awarded with the O2 Silver Clef Award, whilst rock legendsStatus Quo were honoured with the Sony Ericsson Lifetime Achievement Award and the fabulous Liza Minnelli was awarded with the Investec Icon Award.
We were also excited to welcome our other award winners Biffy Clyro(Royal Albert Hall Best British Band), Arcade Fire (Hard Rock Ambassadors of Rock), Swedish House Mafia (Raymond Weil International Award), Tinie Tempah (TAG: Best Newcomer Award),McFly (American Express Digital Innovation Award) and Alfie Boe (PPL Classical Award), who were all there to celebrate. On Wednesday 31st August, Annie Lennox OBE will be awarded the Walpole Medal of Excellence at a glittering reception at Edinburgh’s Balmoral Hotel, held in association with Adam & Company. The Walpole Medal recognises outstanding excellence in every aspect of the recipient’s work and activities and is presented biannually in Scotland.
One of the finest and most extraordinary musical voices of our time, singer, songwriter, campaigner and activist, Annie Lennox is celebrated as an innovator, an icon, and a symbol of enduring excellence. As an eight time BRIT award winner, four time Grammy winner, with more than 20 international hits across the world and over 80 million record sales to date, Annie’s music career has been unparalleled since she first teamed up with Dave Stewart in the early 1970’s and they formed Eurythmics in 1979.
Annie was founder of the SING campaign in 2007 which raises funds to help increase awareness and prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa and has already reached out to thousands of people. In addition to the SING campaign, in 2010 she was made Scotland’s Special Envoy to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on HIV/AIDS. Annie Lennox is also a Global Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS Ambassador for Oxfam, Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Campaign, Amnesty International, The British Red Cross, London, as well as supporting numerous other organisations. She was awarded an OBE in the 2011 New Year Honours List.
Annie Lennox’s devotion to charity activities and her worldwide musical achievements have recently been acknowledged with a number of other prestigious awards including the Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef at the annual Silver Clef Awards on 1st July, which recognises outstanding contribution in UK music. Also in 2011 she has received a Great Scot Award and the Daily Record Hero Award.
