Under The Influence

A monthly showcase for new songwriters/bands: each act performs two of their own songs and one cover version by the featured artist of the month.

Now established as one of London’s premier music nights, “Under The Influence” began as a monthly night at The Boogaloo in North London but is now expanding, with the launch of Under The Influence Records in Oct 2013, events elsewhere and plans for a possible radio/tv show currently in the early stages of development.

Since it began in 2010 it’s been featured as pick of the week in the Guardian Guide and had write ups in Time Out, Metro and others.

The night attracts huge crowds and a varied range of signed and unsigned acts with nights dedicated to a range of artists that has included Leonard Cohen, Kate Bush, Suede, Nick Cave, Nina Simone, Prince, The Specials, Jacques Brel, Belle & Sebastian & loads more.

The night was devised by Nathan Loughran (AKA: Nat the Hammer), who comperes the event and often performs. Nat is also the singer with North London based indie band; The Reverse, who released their debut album, “Kind Words For Cruel Times” on Under The Influence Records in November 2013.

In May 2013 Under The Influence were invited to host an event at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton. Dedicating the night to Great Escape headliner Billy Bragg, organisers were amazed when Bragg himself turned up and joined the acts onstage for a singalong of “A New England”.

On Sat 16th November 2013, from 7pm, Under The Influence will be running a special event as part of The End Festival at The Pavillion (N Middx Cricket Club) The Calthorpe Ground, Shepherds Cot, Park Road, Crouch End, London N8 8JJ.

To celebrate the Crouch End connection they?re dedicating the night to local heroes Eurythmics, with some excellent new acts playing. Dave Stewart has officially endorsed the night and agreed to donate some Eurythmics goodies to give away, so this promises to be a great night.

Day or weekend wristbands and more info available from https://theendfestival.tv/ The website is regularly updated with videos of some of the best performances and there are plans to release a compilation album featuring some of the acts who have performed at Under The Influence.

“Under the Influence” returns to The Boogaloo, 312 Archway Road, London, N6 5AT For a tribute to Paul Simon on 25th November 2013, with guest host My Mate George.
