Sky Arts’ flagship music programme Songbook returns for a fourth season in March – with two episodes to be screened in 3D.

The series, which examines the art of songwriting, returns on Monday March 7 at 9pm with a programme featuring Dave Stewart from Eurythmics. Don McLean, Leiber and Stoller, Diane Warren, Kasabian and KT Tunstall will all feature during the series, which goes out on Sky Arts 1 HD and Sky Arts 1, with the KT Tunstall and Diane Warren episodes also filmed in 3D for Sky’s 3D channel.

“Songbook continues to offer music fans insight into the extraordinary careers, talent and inspiration of these phenomenal performers,” said Sky Arts acting channel director James Hunt. “Add in the episodes filmed for Sky 3D and Songbook becomes the closest thing a fan can have to a mini gig in their living room. It’s easy to see why it’s one of Sky Arts best loved shows.”

Sky Arts is a co-production between Liberty Bell and JolyGoodTV and his hosted by author Will Hodgkinson and radio presenter Bob Harris. How did some of the most famous songs of our times come to be written? What was the inspiration behind them? And how do they sound when performed “unplugged” by the composer themselves?

Dave shared these photos last year when the programme was being recorded in London. The first features Judith Hill and Anne Marie Calhoun and the second, Colbie Caillet who sings the track Bullet Proof Vest on the forthcoming Blackbird Diaries album.
