Why don’t you take me to your heart?
The inability of reaching the loved one is immensely frustrating: “Time after time I try to contact you; time after time I try to talk to you, but you don’t take me to your heart”.
When it seems impossible to break that wall of diffidence and coldness, one can give up and keep her/his special attentions to someone else. Or set out to a soul-destroying and alienating path of solitude: “When I’m alone I think you’re near me; it’s good to pretend that you’re with me”.
This dark and haunting song is featured on In the Garden, Eurythmics’ debut album released in 1981.
